Loops: Loops are a very important part of free-motion quilting and have several functions. Loops teach you how to slow down and turn while maintaining uniform stitches, but most importantly, it allows you to link motifs across your fabric. Practice different-size loops until you are comfortable with the results. This shape will be used time and time again to travel from one motif to another without stopping, starting or tying off your threads. Practice making loops on paper until you are comfortable with the movement, and then move to the machine and prepared quilt sandwich.
